In the midst of World War II the Ottomans were at war with Russia, the Ottomans government thought that the Christian Armenians would side with the Russians so that it the reason that this genocide took place during World War II. In 1915 The Turkish Government started the mass deportation of the Armenians that were living within Turkey, for reasons that were said to have brought concerns to Turkish national security. This is oftenthe case with ethnic and religious minorities, like the Armenian Christians living in the Ottoman Empire. The Armenian Christians had experienced violent acts like this before but none to the magnitude of this genocide in The Armenian Genocide of 1915-1916 was the first genocide of the 20th century and one of the largest in world history.
